    Trusting the Spirit

    Bible Basis: Acts 11:1-18

    Bible Truth:Β  Peter’s testimony to the power of the Holy Spirit converting Gentiles increased Jerusalem’s church support of Peter.

    Memory Verse:Β  β€œForasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?” (Acts11:17).

    Lesson Aim:Β  That we will:

    • LEARN that Peter’s preaching to the Gentiles was affirmed by the believers in Jerusalem;
    • FEEL comfortable with reaching out to the different peoples;
    • IDENTIFY Christian scriptures that include all in the Body of Christ.

    Lesson Aim: By the end of the lesson, we will:

    1. Locate the two places in the New Testament that quote Jeremiah 31:31–34.
    2. Harmonize Jeremiah 31:29–30 with Exodus 20:5; 34:7.
    3. Notice the Holy Spirit’s work of bringing awareness of sin and giving desires to love God faithfully.

    Bible Truth:Β  Peter’s recognition that God shows now partiality allowed him to tell the Good News to the Gentiles.

    Memory Verses:Β  β€œThen Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons; But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him” (Acts 10:34-35).

    Lesson Aim:Β  That we will

    • BECOME aware that Peter told the Gentiles about the message of God’s love;
    • CELEBRATE that God loves all people; and
    • FIND ways to communicate God’s love to those who do not know Jesus Christ as Savior.

    Bible Truth: Saul’s bold and powerful preaching caused the numbers of the church to increase.

    Memory Verse: “And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that his is the son of God” (Acts 9:20).

    Lesson AIM: By the end of this lesson, we will:

    • RECALL Saul’s acceptance as a Christian and the reward of his zeal in preaching about Jesus;
    • EXAMINE the church’s willingness to accept and meaningfully include in the body of Christ those whose background is perceived as being suspect and encourage their bold witness about the change in their lives; and
    • CELEBRATE those whose lives were transformed by Christ and then became bold witnesses for His cause.
