Hope Complains

BIBLE BASIS: Job 24:1, 9-12, 19-25

BIBLE TRUTH: God takes care of the unjust and saves the needy and gives the poor hope in the battle they are waging.

MEMORY VERSE:  Job 24:1

LESSON AIM: By the end of the lesson, your students will:

• EXPLORE Job’s complaint about the appearance that God does nothing to call wicked people to account.
• APPRECIATE that although the timing of God’s justice if often inscrutable to us, it is certain;
• DETERMINE ways to help God bring justice to the poor and weak.

A Plea for Deliverance

Bible Basis: Psalm 22:1-11

Memory Verse: “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?” Psalm 22:1

Lesson Aims: After participating in this lesson, each learner will be able to:

1. Identify the New Testament significance of Psalm 22.
2. Compare and contrast David’s experiences with his trust in God.
3. Identify an area of personal trial and offer a prayer for God’s help or rescue.

Rejoice Anyway

Bible Basis: Habakkuk 2:1-5, 3:17-19

Memory Verse: Habakkuk 3:17-18

Lesson AIM: That we will

• DISCOVER God’s message of patience and assurance that God will act with justice.
• EXPERIENCE the feeling of joy that comes from patiently waiting on God’s promises;
• PRACTICE responding to difficulties by trusting in God’s presence and by praising God for strength to endure.

1. List God’s attributes as sung by Moses and Miriam.
2. Trace the historical elements within Moses’ and Miriam’s celebratory songs of praise.
3. Write and sing a song of praise to God for his character and deliverance of his people.

A NEW FUTURE

BIBLE BASIS: JEREMIAH 32:2-9, 14-15

BIBLE TRUTH: While Jerusalem was under siege, God instructed the prophet Jeremiah to purchase property as a sign that there was a future for the people and their land beyond defeat and exile.

MEMORY VERSE: “For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Houses and fields and vineyards shall be possessed again in this land.” (Jeremiah 32:15).

LESSON AIM: By the end of the lesson, your students will:

• RETELL the hopefulness of Jeremiah’s purchase of a field while he awaits the invasion and siege of Jerusalem;
• APPRECIATE hope ad hopeful actions in the face of deep hardship;
• REVIEW our personal times of hardship in the past that held, and hold, hope for the future.

Hezekiah’s Prayer

Bible Basis: 2 Kings 19:14–20, 29–31

Memory Verse: 2 Kings 19:19

Lesson Aims: After participating in this lesson, each learner will be able to:

1. Explain the historical circumstance behind Hezekiah’s prayer.
2. Distinguish Hezekiah’s response to God from the responses of other Old Testament kings.
3. Create a plan to respond to any crisis with immediate prayer to the Lord.

A VISION OF THE FUTURE

BIBLE BASIS: Jeremiah 30:1-3, 18-22

BIBLE TRUTH: God’s promise to restore the fortunes of the people, Israel and Judah, and to reestablish the covenant with them.

MEMORY VERSE: “For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it” (Jeremiah 30:3)

LESSON AIM: By the end of the lesson, we will:

• REVIEW God’s written promise to restore the people and the land of Israel and Judah as of old
• IMAGINE and EXPRESS the feelings of safety in a community that has great promise for the future; and
• PLAN a way to invite people who are not part of the covenant community to become members of the church and Sunday School
