Bible Basis: Job 42:1-10

Bible Truth: God can do all things, prevails over all things, and hears our prayers in trying situations.

Praise for Deliverance

Unit 2: Songs of the Old Testament [David’s prayer of forgiveness], A Plea for Deliverance

 Bible Basis: Isaiah 25:1-10a

Memory Verse: “And in this mountain shall the Lord of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.” Isaiah 25:6

 

Lesson Aims: After participating in this lesson, each learner will be able to:

1. Summarize the historical context of Isaiah the man.
2. Connect Isaiah’s historical context to his specific assurances of God’s faithfulness.
3. Write a personal testimony to God’s faithfulness.

A Plea for Deliverance

Bible Basis: Psalm 22:1-11

Memory Verse: “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?” Psalm 22:1

Lesson Aims: After participating in this lesson, each learner will be able to:

1. Identify the New Testament significance of Psalm 22.
2. Compare and contrast David’s experiences with his trust in God.
3. Identify an area of personal trial and offer a prayer for God’s help or rescue.

Even So, My Redeemer Lives

BIBLE BASIS: Job 19:1-7, 23-29

BIBLE TRUTH: God, the Redeemer, lives and constantly sends forth steadfast love to all people.

MEMORY VERSE:  “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:” – Job 19:25

LESSON AIM: By the end of the lesson, your students will:

• UNDERSTAND that Job had unwavering belief in God’s redemption even as he was made to suffer;
• AFFIRM that, though we suffer much, God loves us and offers us redemption.
• ACKNOWLEDGE ways we are loved and blessed during times of trouble.

BIBLE BASIS: JEREMIAH 33:2-11

BIBLE TRUTH: God is willing to forgive and bring recovery, healing, and restoration. 

MEMORY VERSE: “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” (Jeremiah 33:3).

LESSON AIM: By the end of the lesson, your students will:

• REALIZE that God’s promise to follow punishment with forgiveness and restoration is still a valid promise;
• AFFIRM that with God, punishment, forgiveness, and healing come as a package;
• DESIGN a thanks offering for hope, healing, and forgiveness we receive from God.

Hezekiah’s Prayer

Bible Basis: 2 Kings 19:14–20, 29–31

Memory Verse: 2 Kings 19:19

Lesson Aims: After participating in this lesson, each learner will be able to:

1. Explain the historical circumstance behind Hezekiah’s prayer.
2. Distinguish Hezekiah’s response to God from the responses of other Old Testament kings.
3. Create a plan to respond to any crisis with immediate prayer to the Lord.

Bible Basis: Numbers 14:10-20

Bible Truth: Moses intercedes for the people of Israel.

Memory Verse: “Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.” Numbers 14:19

Lesson AIM: That we will:

– RECOGNIZE the significance of Moses’ intercession for the people of Israel;

– REPENT for rebelling against God’s plans and not trusting His strength; and

– ASK for forgiveness for our sins.
